Michelle Schira Hagerman

Assistant Professor

Assistant professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Hagerman studies digital literacies teaching and learning in contexts of schooling. Through her recent collaborative, SSHRC-funded project with Dr. Megan Cotnam-Kappel and Dr. Janette Hughes (Canada Research Chair, Technology and Pedagogy) she seeks to understand the ways that maker-oriented teaching and learning activities support diverse meaning-making practices, particularly for young people who experience systemic marginalizations. An Ontario Certified Teacher, Dr. Hagerman taught French as a Second Language in publicly funded and independent schools in Canada for nine years before earning a PhD in Educational Psychology and Educational Technology at the Michigan State University College of Education.
